LGBTQIA+-Affirming Treatment Center · Laurel Canyon

LGBTQIA+-Affirming Addiction & Mental Health Treatment

Since 2013, we've built care around one fact:

  • You shouldn't have to hide who you are, who you love, or how you identify to get well
  • Gender-affirming care and chosen family are part of treatment, not an accommodation
  • A clinical team that already understands the LGBTQIA+ experience instead of learning it from you

Call 24/7 and talk to a real person — no pressure, no obligation.

The setting

Our Laurel Canyon Facility

A private, inclusive, and affirming space to recover — three residential homes tucked into Laurel Canyon, built for privacy first and everything else second.

Belonging

Whoever you are, you belong here

Recovery takes enough energy without also managing how you're perceived. Whether you're out to everyone, out to no one, or still figuring it out — whether the people supporting you are the family you were born into or the one you chose — nothing about who you are needs to be hidden, minimized, or explained here.

Can we help you?

What we treat

Substance use, mental health, or both — treated as equally important and deeply connected. For many LGBTQIA+ people, addiction and mental health are tangled up with rejection, minority stress, or trauma. We treat the whole picture, not just the symptom.

Your path to recovery

Levels of Care & Therapies

Recovery isn't one-size-fits-all. We move with you through as many levels of care as you need.

Residential Treatment

Flagship

Our most structured, primary level of care. Clients live on-site with 24/7 supervision, daily therapy, and psychiatric care for both addiction and mental health.

Detox

Medically supervised environment to safely manage withdrawal symptoms.

PHP — Day Treatment (SUD, MH)

Intensive day treatment; clients return home or to transitional living in the evenings.

IOP — Intensive Outpatient (SUD, MH)

Flexible schedule for those balancing treatment with work, school, or family.

Transitional Living / Enhanced Sober Living

Structured, supportive environment for the transition to independent living.

Outpatient (OP)

Most flexible level of care, ideal as a step-down after more intensive levels.

Why Breathe

More than a rehab — a place you don't have to explain yourself

Breathe is a residential, LGBTQIA+-affirming healing center treating addiction and mental health as equal, connected parts of the same journey. Affirming care here means clinicians who understand minority stress, staff who use your pronouns without being asked twice, and a community where your energy goes into recovery instead of into managing how you're seen.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast can I actually start if I call today?

Faster than you'd think. The moment you call, an admissions specialist walks you through your situation and options that same day — many people are able to start treatment within days, not weeks. You don't need to have everything figured out before you call; that's exactly what our four-step admissions process helps you figure out.

Will I still be able to stay in touch with my family while I'm in treatment?

Yes. Staying connected to the people who matter to you is part of the healing process, not something that gets put on pause. Beyond regular contact, we offer family therapy and dedicated spaces designed to help your family understand how to support you better, both during and after treatment.

What if my job can't find out I'm in treatment — how private is this?

We take confidentiality seriously, and protecting your privacy is built into every part of how we operate. What you share with us — and who you choose to tell about your treatment — stays your decision. On your first call, our admissions team can talk through your specific situation and answer any questions you have about how privacy works here.

I'm part of the LGBTQIA+ community — will I actually be able to be myself here?

Completely. This isn't a space where you soften your identity, adjust your pronouns, or edit your history to be understood. Care here is built from the ground up to be LGBTQIA+-affirming, with a team that already gets it — so you can spend your energy healing, not educating anyone about yourself.

Will the staff understand my identity, or will I have to educate them?

Understanding is already part of the job here, not something you have to teach. Our team works with LGBTQIA+ clients as a core part of our care, not an exception to it — so you can spend your energy on healing instead of explaining who you are.

Will I be able to continue gender-affirming care, like hormone therapy, while I'm here?

Yes — continuity of care matters, and that includes gender-affirming treatment you're already on. Our clinical team coordinates directly with you and, when appropriate, your prescribing provider, so this isn't something you have to pause or negotiate for once you arrive. Ask your admissions specialist about your specific regimen on your first call.

Do you have a program for chemsex, or substance use tied to sex?

Yes — this is one of the few dedicated chemsex treatment programs in the country. It's built specifically for the connection between substance use and sex, treated together, with a team that won't blink or judge when you describe what's actually been happening.

Can my chosen family be part of my treatment?

Yes. Our family programming — including Family Class and a 3-Day Family Workshop — makes room for the people who show up for you, whether or not they're related to you by blood.

I have anxiety or depression on top of my substance use — does that make it harder to get the right help?

Actually, it's exactly what we know how to treat. Most people who come to us have both, connected to each other — which is why our care plans address them together from day one, not as separate problems. You don't have to "choose" which one to treat first; it's treated as one story.

I'm traveling from out of state — how does that work?

It's common, and our admissions team handles it regularly. On your first call, they'll walk you through travel logistics and what to expect arriving from out of state, so you know exactly what the process looks like before you book anything.

I'm not sure my insurance covers this — how do I find out?

That shouldn't be what keeps you from calling. We work directly with most major insurance providers to verify your coverage at no cost and with no obligation, and we'll walk you through exactly what your options are — before you decide anything. One call gets you the answer, not a contract.
